Ms. Wheelchair Visit Marks ADA Anniversary By Sean Rossman for The Tallahassee Democrat
Heather Taylor, Ms. Wheelchair Florida 2016, stopped by Cascades Park on Tuesday to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The stop marked the end of Taylor’s 10-day tour of the state to advocate for people with disabilities. She was welcomed by Tallahassee City Commissioner Nancy Miller and Leon County Commissioner John Dailey.
Taylor took a tour of the park, which city officials said successfully meets all ADA requirements.
The motivational speaker, community activist, educator and musician lauded the day the ADA became law.
“That momentous day resulted in creating a greater level of accessibility and equality for persons with disabilities,” she said. “As I have toured the state of Florida, I am so thankful for the positive changes we have made and continue to make toward a fully inclusive state.”
