The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is warning the public about a scam involving a toll-free number no longer owned by HHSC. People who call the number, 1-800-248-1078, are offered gift cards or other rewards in exchange for their credit card information.

HHSC never asks for credit card information over the phone.

HHSC is asking its stakeholders to warn people they work with not to call the outdated number. Anyone who has given their credit card information over the phone while talking to someone who claims to be from HHSC should call the police and contact the Office of the Attorney General.
