National Family Caregivers Month
Nearly 40% of adult Americans are caring for a loved one who is disabled, sick or elderly. Many family caregivers perform complex daily medical tasks for their loved ones, including managing medications, operating specialized medical equipment and much more. We recognize and support the 90 million family caregivers in the U.S. who dedicate their lives to this labor of love.
National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month
In 2010, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution designating November as Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. Stomach cancer is the 4th most common cancer type and the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the world. More than 21,000 Americans will be diagnosed with stomach cancer this year, and nearly half of those diagnosed will lose their battle with the disease.
National Home Care & Hospice Month
Home care and hospice workers provide vital services to Americans who are aged, disabled, and ill. This caring work is performed by more than 2 million nurses, therapists and independent caregivers each year. By providing professional in-home care, home health and hospice providers help preserve the independence and dignity of the ones we love.
National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month
Congress first designated November 1983 as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month . At the time, fewer than 2 million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s; since then, that number has more than doubled. This month we recognize the 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and honor the caregivers, families and friends who support them.
With a little over three weeks left in our “What Makes Caregiving Rewarding?” Story Contest, 145 dedicated caregivers have shared their stories so far.
