Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday traditionally celebrated over a delicious meal with family and friends. Yet for many Americans, the only secure meal they will enjoy this Thanksgiving will come from community donations to their local food pantry or soup kitchen.

This Thanksgiving, Shield HealthCare‘s corporate office employees in Valencia, California are supporting our neighbors in need by collecting donations for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is dedicated to providing supplemental food on a short-term basis to local residents in need. Their mission is to alleviate hunger throughout the Santa Clarita Valley on Thanksgiving Day and throughout the year, so that no child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry.

Hunger touches every community. One in six Americans face hunger daily. According to the USDA, over 50 million Americans live in food-insecure households, including more than 16 million children and  nearly four million seniors.  Shield HealthCare employees worked together to collect many of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry’s most-needed food and hygiene items in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

If you are interested in donating items to community members in need this holiday season, the following organizations can help you find your closest local food bank or food pantry:

On behalf of Shield HealthCare, have a healthy, happy Thanksgiving Day!
