The holidays can make you think of Charles Dickens. Not “A Christmas Carol.” More like “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times … ”
Hyperbole aside, the season does have highs and lows: fun/stress, togetherness/colds and flu, delicious food/poor nutrition, traditions/obligations, holiday lights/low natural light and winter blues, good memories/reminders of loss. You know it all too well.
Here are some ideas on how get you through this hectic season feeling balanced and even joyful:
Body basics
Staying healthy makes everything easier. Yet it can be difficult in this time of large gatherings and closed spaces.
Local Naturopath Kate Brainard, who works at Pharmaca, first points to some hygiene basics: Wash your hands frequently and well, stay away from those who are ill, disinfect surfaces, rest, eat well and drink plenty of fluids. Also, be considerate and stay home if you’re sick.
