Lyons Magnus Plant Expands Product Recall, Including Kate Farms and PediaSure

Nearly 100 Products Deemed Unsafe In Expanded Recall

On July 28, 2022, food supplier Lyons Magnus announced a voluntary recall of 53 beverage products, due to potential bacterial contamination.

After further consultation with the FDA, Lyons Magnus expanded its voluntary recall on August 10, 2022, to encompass products distributed beginning in April 2021, expanding the number of brands and code dates included in the recall. A total of 22 brands, nearly 100 products and more than 650 lot codes are involved in this recall, including Kate Farms and Abbott (PediaSure) formulas. The FDA indicates that the products did not meet commercial sterility specifications. Consumers are warned not to consume any of the recalled products even if they do not look or smell spoiled. The contamination may include organisms Cronobacter sakazakii and Clostridium botulinum.

While infection related to Cronobacter sakazakii is rare, common symptoms may include fever, vomiting and urinary tract infection. People at high risk (older adults, children under five, those with weakened immune systems and those who are pregnant)  may be more susceptible to infection.

Clostridium botulinum may cause a severe form of food poisoning. It can begin from six hours to two weeks after eating food that contains the toxin. Symptoms may include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and muscle weakness. Botulism poisoning can cause respiratory paralysis, resulting in death, unless assistance with breathing (mechanical ventilation) is provided.

If you have recalled product in your possession, please dispose of it immediately or return it to place of purchase for a refund. If you have unused recalled product distributed by Shield HealthCare prior to the recall, please contact us for immediate replacement. Customers who may have received recalled product will also be notified directly.
