Did you know the Shield RD Team recently went to ASPEN? No, not beautiful Colorado. They attended the 2023 ASPEN Nutrition Science & Practice Conference in (viva!) Las Vegas. It was our second time in the past two years to attend the conference.
Why do we go, and what is ASPEN?
ASPEN (American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition; I’ll explain what that means later) is a medical professional organization with over 6,000 members worldwide.
Who joins? Dietitians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, scientists, students, and other health professionals who are involved with clinical practice, research, and or education.
The ASPEN Vision is a world in which every patient receives safe, effective, and high-quality nutrition care.
Shield HealthCare supports its Registered Dietitians in their clinical expertise, knowledge, and growth. The ASPEN conference sessions provided the RD’s the opportunity to:
- Sharpen their clinical skills
- Hear the latest nutrition research
- Share solutions to challenging patient cases
- Earn continuing education credits
So what does enteral and parenteral mean:
- Enteral – This term refers to using the digestive system to eat. So if you are drinking/eating by mouth, a nasogastric, gastrostomy, or jejunal tube – you are fed enterally.
- Parenteral nutrition – This means being fed through the veins. It’s used when the gastrointestinal tract isn’t functioning or needs a rest.
Shield is committed to providing your nutrition and medical supplies with top-notch clinical support.
