Shield HealthCare, a leading provider of medical supplies for care at home, is pleased to announce its 11th annual story contest on “What Makes Caregiving Rewarding?” designed to recognize and hear the voice of caregivers and home healthcare professionals, featuring celebrity contest judge, Sandra Mitchell of KCAL 9/CBS 2 News. Shield Healthcare understands that caregiving is a demanding job.
A significant number of our customers are family caregivers at home, tending to a loved one with a chronic medical condition. They unselfishly take on the challenge and responsibility of meeting the daily health and emotional needs of the person in their care. This story contest is a positive way to recognize and reward this important role. The contest runs from September 5, 2011 through November 30, 2011 in celebration of National Family Caregiver’s Month.
Last year’s grand prize winners included family caregivers and healthcare professionals. Winner Sara Thomas wrote, “I feel my eyes tearing up as I dab his grinning lips with a cloth. My six foot hulk of a man, accomplished musician and adoring father of five is now in need of my constant care.”
The top three story winners will receive $1,000 in American Express Gift Checks and a 1-year subscription to Today’s Caregiver Magazine. Five runners-up will also be awarded the magazine subscription and $250 in American Express Gift Checks. All contest entries must be one-page, typed or hand-written and postmarked by November 30, 2011. Entries may be submitted via postal mail, email or Shield HealthCare’s website. Full contest details and official rules are available online. Click here for full contest details.

Thank God there are people like this that serve their fellow man.
Caregiving rewarding knowing that God is watching both the giver and the one who will receive the care that was given. I have been donating money for several years for people needing care and it makes me happy to know that I care for those receiving. I am 77 years old and plan to live several more years and continue my giving.
Thanks for the opportunity.
I recently lost my Mother-in-law at age 100! She taught me as much as I taught her. We were basically inseparable for the last fifteen years of her life. She was a wondrous woman; quick to forgive and always had a smile on her face. It was always a pleasure to walk into the room and see her waiting for me! I miss you, Mother.
CAREGIVERS are family, giving the best of care and understanding to our love ones
I lost my wife after a long bout wintestinal cancer. She passed away the day before 9/11.Along with my grief i felt the shock of that terrible attack. I dont have any regrets about the caregiving I gave her during her long illness.
Caregiving is very rewarding and makes me feel great because its wonderful to help others.
