SHIELD HEALTHCARE ANNOUNCES CAREGIVER STORY CONTEST WINNERS
Valencia, CA – Shield HealthCare, a leading provider of medical supplies for care at home, is pleased to announce the winners of its 12th annual “What Makes Caregiving Rewarding” story contest, recognizing the dedicated role of professional and family caregivers.
Congratulations to the three grand prize story contest winners: Mysti K., caregiver for her daughter with Angelman Syndrome, Nichole K., caregiver for her son with Batten disease and Evangelina G., caregiver for her mother with Alzheimer’s disease. The 5 runners-up are: Jesse R., caregiver for his mother with Multiple Sclerosis, Lawanda H., caregiver for daughter with Cerebral Palsy, Shaylinn H., professional caregiver, Linda M., caregiver for mother and Teresea G., caregiver for her son with special needs.
A total of 469 caregiver stories were received. The top winners were selected by celebrity contest judge, Sandra Mitchell, CBS 2/KCAL 9 News Anchor.
The top three story winners received $1,000 in American Express Gift Cards and a 1-year subscription to Today’s Caregiver Magazine. The five runners-up received $250 in American Express Gift Cards and the magazine subscription. Shield HealthCare’s “What Makes Caregiving Rewarding” story contest is designed to create awareness and recognition of the role of caregivers. Shield HealthCare supports caregivers on a daily basis by providing medical supplies for quality care at home. The annual caregiver story contest is a positive way for caregivers to share inspiration with others about their triumphs over adversity, challenges, daily joys and love of caring.
Winner Evangelina G. wrote, “The impact of my Mom’s unwelcome medical diagnosis has fractured our lives and has made things seem difficult to live through. You forget about yourself and in fact, your life as a caregiver even seems as if it’s not even fully yours anymore. You are on the job 24/7, 365 days a year. Yet, the gratification after so much pain, is the beautiful smile my mom gives you every morning when she awakes, and every night right before falling asleep. That smile, which has managed to escape the illness, is very telling of the love my Mother has received and given.”

Shield HealthCare also announces its 2nd annual Readers’ Choice Contest, allowing additional caregiver stories from “What Makes Caregiving Rewarding?” contest to receive acclaim and recognition from the voting public. The top 3 winners selected by public vote on Shield HealthCare’s website will receive $150.00 in American Express Gift Cards.
