Join Together For Better Care
On February 28th we recognize Rare Disease Day across the United States and around the world. In the United States, a rare disease is defined as a disease that affects less than 200,000 people. There are nearly 7,000 rare diseases and disorders in the U.S. Rare diseases affect approximately 30 million Americans, or one in every ten people. Two-thirds of those affected are children.
The theme of this year’s Rare Disease Day is “Join Together for Better Care!” Today we celebrate the many doctors, nurses, case managers, patient advocates, parents and caregivers who work tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by rare diseases.
Many of Shield HealthCare’s patients live with rare diseases such as Fragile X syndrome, Angelman syndrome, Huntington’s disease, Hydrocephalus, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and many more. We stand together in support of the many family members and caregivers who manage multiple medications, provide specialized meals and operate life-supporting medical equipment for their loved ones. The Shield HealthCare team is honored to be a reliable resource for the caregiving community.
