Fall Prevention Part II: Impact, Assessment and Hidden Risks, presented by Barbara E. West, RN, MSN, CWOCN of Capital Nursing Education.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, every year 1 out of every 3 adults age 65 or older falls, resulting in a death every 29 minutes. Fall Prevention is a critical factor both inside and outside of homes and healthcare facilities.

Webinar Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • List 3 ways falls impact the healthcare system
  • Identify 4 areas in a fall assessment
  • Identify 3 risk areas while out in the community
  • List 2 resources for families and caregivers

Barbara West, RNAbout Barbara E. West, RN, MSN, CWOCN

Barbara West received her Masters of Nursing at Yale University in 1993 and her Wound Ostomy Continence Certification from Emory University in 2011. She has held several positions within the Kaiser Organization, most recently working at the Kaiser Vacaville, Morse Avenue and South Sacramento in-patient facilities performing full-scope ostomy and wound care. She has also provided full-scope wound/ostomy care at the South Sacramento, Morse Avenue and Roseville outpatient clinics and is currently re-discovering the joys of foot and nail care at the Morse Ave. Ortho-Podiatry wound clinic. Barbara has 12 years’ experience in hospice, and her experience in home health includes working with patients of all ages for both UC Davis Medical Center and Sutter.
